Six individuals have been sentenced to 40 months in jail by the District Court for illegally imprisoning and assaulting an undercover police officer at a bar in Tsim Sha Tsui in December 2021.
The officer was recognized by one of the defendants, who then led a group in beating and humiliating him.
The bar owner and others also took nude photos of the officer and threatened to release them.
The judge criticized the defendants for challenging law enforcement and highlighted the officer's suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
The bar was operating illegally during the
COVID-19 pandemic, and the defendants were aware of the social distancing measures in place.
The defense argued that the defendants were protecting their business, but the judge rejected this claim.
