Six people arrested during a Yuen Long drug raid on Monday, where police seized 41kg of cocaine and “ice” drugs hidden in boxes of instant stir-fry noodles.
Three Indonesian women and three Sri Lankan males, aged 35 to 64, were caught by officers around 3pm when unloading boxes from a container at a warehouse on Tung Wui Road in Kam Tin, Yuen Long.
Among 1,323 boxes of instant noodles in the container, officers seized a total of 40kg of cocaine and 1kg of methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice” drugs.
The six were then arrested on suspicion of trafficking in dangerous drugs. All of them hold the recognizance form, a “going-out pass” issued by the Immigration Department, according to police.
Officers said another warehouse on Wing Kei Road in Kwai Chung was also raided on the same afternoon and located 11 cocaine bricks, weighing 11kg in total, in a refrigerated container.
The drugs seized in the two anti-narcotics operations were worth about HK$43 million altogether.
Police have laid charges against two of the women aged 39 and 42. The other four will be remanded in custody.
Officers said the cargoes arrived in the city from Malaysia and Brazil, and believed the drug syndicate switched their drug transport to waters during the pandemic.
Police are still investigating the sources of the drugs. They will also investigate if the two cases are linked and if the six are members of any triad society.
Trafficking in dangerous drugs is a serious offense and the maximum penalty upon conviction carries a HK$5 million fine and life sentence.
