Sino Group spreads the community spirit of care and giving

As the recipient of three awards in this year’s Hong Kong Volunteer Award, Sino Group realizes its vision of Creating Better Lifescapes by reaching out to those in need through its volunteer team, Sino Caring Friends.
Actively encouraging and supporting its employees, together with their family and friends, to participate in voluntary work, Sino Group firmly believes that community participation is key to creating better lifescapes for Hong Kong.

Its volunteer team, appropriately named “Sino Caring Friends”, extends its care through synergetic partnerships with charitable organizations and non-governmental organizations to better serve those in need, and promote an inclusive society.

Thanks to their dedication, Sino Group garnered three awards at the Hong Kong Volunteer Award: Top Ten Highest Volunteer Hours (Corporate with 1,000 or above full-time employees), Most Active Corporate Award, and Corporate (Volunteer Hours) Excellence Gold Award.

A strong culture of volunteerism

Founded in 2008, Sino Caring Friends has been building strong ties with community welfare organizations to understand the needs of underprivileged families and offer care and support for the destitute.

As volunteering is an important part of the Group’s corporate culture, it has launched the Volunteer Incentive Scheme which encourages staff to participate in community service during office hours, for at least one day a year.

In 2021, Sino Caring Friends organized more than 320 activities with a participation of over 1,000 volunteers to provide services to over 5,500 underprivileged families and around 300,000 seniors, youths and children. Its total volunteer service in Hong Kong exceeded 186,000 hours.

Meanwhile, the Group offers strong backup to support the community, including donations and sponsorships, with promotional materials and videos displayed at its properties for free.

2021 Program highlights

With the underprivileged particularly hard-hit by the pandemic, the Group launched several programs to provide immediate and practical assistance.

The Charity Meal Box Donation Program is a six-month program jointly organized with Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and community partners to distribute over 60,000 hot meals to the needy. These carefully-designed, nutritious meals were prepared by chefs of Sino Hotels and Pei Ho Counterparts operated by ‘Ming Gor’ Chan Cheuk-ming in Sham Shui Po. They were distributed by Sino Caring Friends and NGO partners to the needy and the elderly across Hong Kong.

Spreading love and care during festive seasons to over 4,000 families, Sino Caring Friends not only donated food and supplies to fight the pandemic, but also visited neighborhoods in various districts to send well wishes.

Last Christmas, a city orienteering challenge was held at the Gold Coast, Hong Kong. After this exciting outdoor event, Christmas presents were given to the 630 participating students who come from different schools, ending the year with joy and encouragement.

Towards a future of service and sustainability

Through the three complementary elements of green living, innovative ideas and community focus, Sino Group is committed to bringing sustainable development into people’s daily lives and creating better lifescapes.

The Group will continue to collaborate with like-minded community partners and individuals to promote and support volunteer service in its business units and among its staff.

Remaining steadfast in serving those in need, the Group will strive to achieve the goals set out in its ‘Sustainability Vision 2030’, improve the lives of the underprivileged, promote health education, and collaborate with local NGOs to promote an inclusive community.
