Singapore cargo flight’s emergency landing in Hong Kong turns out to be false alarm
A Singapore Airlines cargo flight flying to Shanghai made an emergency landing at the Hong Kong International Airport on Friday night due to a fire alarm, which turned out to be false.
The airline said the cargo flight SQ7858 flying from Singapore to Shanghai changed its course and flew to Hong Kong instead after the fire alarm was triggered during the flight.
After a thorough inspection by the cabin crew, the flight safely landed in Hong Kong at 10.52 pm Friday night.
The fire alarm triggered was later confirmed to be false after an investigation, without any sign of fire or smoke in the cabin.
Airport Authority Hong Kong said that they were contacted by the control tower at 10 pm last night, asking the airport to be on guard. The flight later landed on the north runway with firefighters standing by.
The emergency caused the northern runway to be closed, and nine other flights switched to land on the south runway instead.
The north runway subsequently reopened after an inspection.
