Sham Shui Po boutique burgled of HK$500,000 in valuables
An antiques store in Sham Shui Po was on Friday robbed of HK$500,000 in valuables, some irreplaceable, as an employee returned to the store only to find that items, including 30 wristwatches from brands such as Rolex and Cartier, were missing.
A female employee of the shop called Storerooms filed the report around 2 pm today after having discovered that the glass door had been smashed open.
The store owner, named Lee, arrived later and did a stock check, finding that some 20 to 30 watches, including those from luxury brands such as Rolex, Omega, and Cartier, were missing, with losses totaling over half a million Hong Kong dollars.
The store’s last Instagram post read, “I’m sorry Dad,” as owner Lee explained that one of the stolen watches belonged to his late father.
Some of the other stolen watches had been left by customers for repair.
Lee said his shop would be closed indefinitely and noted they would try their best to handle the online orders first. He again apologized to supporters and followers.
Lee added he moved the shop from Mong Kok to Sham Shui Po three years ago and didn’t buy insurance for the valuables there.
After checking the security camera footage, officers found that two burglars – wearing masks, caps, and carrying a big bag – broke into the store at around 3.50 am. They looted the store thoroughly, and one of them even looked directly into the security camera.
Storerooms was originally an online store and had been in Mong Kok for six years before moving to Sham Shui Po in 2020, where it has been operating ever since.
Apart from vintage bags, shoes, and furniture, the shop also collects and sells exquisitely designed products from all over the world.
