Sha Tin race voided by HKJC after jockey Bowman dislodged from horse
A Sha Tin horse race Saturday afternoon has been voided after jockey Hugh Bowman was dislodged from the horse and sent to hospital, the Hong Kong Jockey Club said.
The incident occurred around 3pm, just 15 seconds after Race 5 started at the Sha Tin Racecourse.
“Jockey Hugh Bowman, who was dislodged from Fast Pace at the first turn after the 1650m start on the all-weather track in Race 5, required urgent assessment from medical staff, prompting the decision by Racing Stewards to abandon mid-race,” the statement read.
“Jockey Hugh Bowman is conscious and has been taken to hospital for further examination,” it added.
HKJC also said it will refund all placed bettings.
Live sources said the 42-year-old Australian sustained minor injuries and Fast Pace suffered from heart attack.
According to the website of HKJC, Bowman won the Hong Kong Derby twice in 2016 and 2019. He also won the QEII Cup in 2016, the Hong Kong Gold Cup and the Champions & Chater Cup in 2017. In 2019, Bowman was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.
