According to the newly released edition of Secondary School Profiles, 44 government and aided schools had to decrease the number of form 1 classes, with Sha Tin District cutting the most classes at 11 due to the declining number of Form one students.
The second hardest hit was Yuen Long District, with six classes cut, followed by Eastern District and Wan Chai District, cutting four classes each.
Shau Kei Wan East Government Secondary School decreased their Form one class from 4 to 2.
Lung Cheung Government Secondary School and Caritas Chai Wan Marden Foundation Secondary School are among the few that are preparing to close down Form one classes after stopping enrolling new students.
A total of 46 classes have been cut compared to last year. On the other hand, ten schools decided to increase their Form one classes by one class.
Some schools also state that they will have special entrance exam arrangements for Shenzhen–Hong Kong cross-boundary students affected by the Covid
measures to combat the decreasing number of students in classes.
