Seventy-three yo suspect in Yau Ma Tei bank robbery caught
Police said they have arrested a 73-year-old man late on Thursday after he allegedly robbed a Yau Ma Tei bank with what appeared to be a gun and fled with HK$14,000.
Officers have arrested the suspect at around 11pm yesterday at a Yuen Kong Tsuen village house in Pat Heung, Yuen Long.
A police spokesman said the firearm used by the suspect during the robbery turns out to be a toy gun, and they have recovered part of the stolen money.
It was understood the suspect has overstayed in Hong Kong for more than 10 years and lives with his wife who is a foreigner.
The force suspected that he committed the crime after he accumulated several hundreds of thousands of debt.
