Seven drivers were arrested during the Easter holidays as police mounted a series of operations targeting drink driving, drug driving and illegal racing from last Tuesday to Monday (Apr 4-10), in which a total of 295 vehicles were caught speeding.
The arrested drivers were aged 27 to 73. Among them, three were arrested for drink driving and two others were found to be wanted criminals.
The remaining two drivers were arrested for driving without a license. driving with a suspended license and driving without third-party insurance.
Police also towed away 14 private cars and three motorcycles as they suspected the vehicles were modified illegally and didn’t comply with legal requirements, violating the Road Traffic (Construction and Maintenance of Vehicles) Regulations.
Five vehicles were also issued the Defective Vehicle Report.
Police also set up digital radars and used laser speed guns as they caught 295 vehicles speeding. The drivers will be issued the penalty tickets later, officers added.
Police warned that drink driving is a serious offense and offender is liable to a maximum fine of HK$25,000 and three years’ imprisonment upon conviction.
Offenders will also see their driving licenses suspended for three years.
