Authorities will consider adjusting the standards for resuming face-to-face classes and maskless extra-curriculum activities if the daily Covid caseload surpasses the 10,000-mark, said education minister Christine Choi Yuk-lin.
On the radio Saturday morning, Choi said the Education Bureau has requested schools to conduct thorough disinfection and recommended parents undertake rapid antigen tests for kids two days before school starts on September 1.
The education chief continued that the vaccination program for children aged six months and three years commenced at later stages and resulted in a lower rate. She urged parents to vaccinate their kids as soon as possible.
Choi added there will be incentive programs in which schools will update students' vaccination rate monthly and award schoolkids prizes if the rate reaches certain levels, hoping to further expand the city's
vaccine coverage.
She noted that teachers have
vaccine passes but not the students. Therefore, it would depend on students' social responsibility to report their infections.
At the same time, Choi called on students to actively seek out health authorities if they have contracted the
coronavirus.
