Ronald Lam named Director of Health
Ronald Lam Man-kin, Controller of the Centre for Health Protection, will take up the post of Director of Health on September 21 when Constance Chan Hon-yee commences her pre-retirement leave, the government announced today.
Lam joined the government as a Medical and Health Officer in 1997. He was promoted to Deputy Director of Health in June last year.
In January this year, Lam has replaced the then controller of the Centre Wong Ka-hing to handle anti-pandemic responsibilities amid the fourth Covid wave in Hong Kong.
Secretary for the Civil Service, Patrick Nip Tak-kuen, said Lam possesses profound professional knowledge and experience, and has proven leadership and management skills.
“I am confident that he will be able to lead the Department of Health to meet the challenges ahead,” said Nip.
The civil service chief also thanked Chan’s professionalism and commitment in the civil service throughout the past 33 years.
“As Director of Health, Chan has made sustained efforts in leading the department to safeguard the health of the community through promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services. In the face of the severe Covid-19 pandemic, she has displayed resolve and perseverance in leading the department to rise to the challenges. I wish her a fulfilling and happy retirement,” Nip added.
