Robber jumps from building to escape the police, injured and caught
A 20-year-old man, who was earlier engaged in a robbery involving sex services, was in critical condition after jumping from the 7th floor of a building in Chai Wan to evade police's search.
The accident happened around 6 am Thursday in Yue Wan Estates as police launched an investigation after receiving reports that a suspected criminal syndicate had used a residential flat for illegal activities.
While officers were searching the 16th floor of Yue Shun House, a man was spotted crawling out from the flat's window, trying to flee.
He climbed the water pipe to get to the 7th floor of Yue On House and jumped to the ground. Officers found him unconscious and covered in blood. The man was sent to Eastern Hospital.
A further investigation is ongoing.
According to the police, the man was suspected of being a member of a syndicate that robbed and beat clients in the name of providing prostitution services.
From one of the syndicate's victims, he was coaxed in December into a hotel room as the syndicate claimed to provide sex services. However, when the victim arrived, multiple males broke in and robbed him before forcing him to transfer around HK$200,000 to them.
Police arrested seven people aged from 16 to 20 after receiving the victim's report, while the man who jumped from the building today has escaped from police's chasing and was earlier being wanted.
