Rita Fan says two systems aspect of one country two systems focus on economics, not politics
Former Legislative Council president Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai said the “systems” in the “one country, two systems” principle refers to the economic systems, but not the political system. Therefore, it requires approval from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
She said Hong Kong's current electoral system no longer works, and has deviated from the intent of the Basic Law. Therefore, it is necessary to bring it back to its original intent.
She added Hong Kong is now "backed into a corner." There is no choice but to reform the electoral system for the sake of Hong Kong and China, barring those who do not love the country and willing to accept the constitution and the Basic Law.
