Chan Shiu-cheong earlier pleaded guilty to four counts of willful assault of a child in his charge for slapping the shoulders and thighs of the two boys, aged 10 and 11, as well as forcefully pulling their penises at a unit at Fanling Center on July 26 and 31.

The younger boy later saw his genitals become swollen and begin bleeding while also having trouble urinating; this drew the parents' attention and unearthed the incident.

Appearing before acting principal magistrate Daniel Tang Siu-hung in Fanling Magistrates' Courts on Friday, the defense for Chan cited a positive background report and said Chan has taught over 100 students, while this is only an isolated incident.

The defense also cited medical reports and pointed out that the incident clearly had an impact on the two kids, and Chan apologized to them and the family.

The defense continued that Chan does not need to earn money by conducting tutoring classes in retirement, and he will not do so after he finishes his jail term, noting that he will not commit the crime again.

Tang then sentenced Chan to three months imprisonment for each of the four charges, with one of the sentences running concurrently, meaning Chan would spend a total of nine months in jail.
