Retired man who called on internet to assault Carrie Lam released on bail
A 61-year-old retired man who incited others to assault former Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor on social media was on Thursday released on bail and saw the case adjourned to November 8.
Pun Tak-shu appeared before principal magistrate Peter Law Tak-chuen as the case was mentioned in the Eastern Magistrates' Courts this morning for the first time.
He was charged with incitement to cause grievous bodily harm with intent for publishing posts online to incite others to assault former CE Lam on February 4, 2020.
It was understood that he wrote in one of the posts, “Let's seriously brainstorm on how we should kill Lam Cheng [Lam's nickname].”
Law adjourned the case to November 8 as requested by the prosecution, pending preparation documents for transferring the case to the District Court.
Law also granted bail to Pun but prohibited him from leaving the city. Pun must also surrender his travel documents and report to a police station once a week.
