Restaurants to provide 30 percent off to inoculated citizens

Inoculated citizens may be able to enjoy a 30 percent off discount for their dinner bills in restaurants across the city starting mid-July.
Lawmaker Tommy Cheung Yu-yan, representing the catering constituencies, said in a radio program that the industry saw good response over the discount offer.

The industry is still in discussion over the discount offer, which is expected to run for two months. It requires at least four diners in each table to have already gotten the jabs.

Cheung said a few hundreds of restaurants operate under mode C, meaning six are allowed per table, all staffers have gotten the jabs and restaurants can open until 12am. He expected more restaurants to switch to this operation mode.

Over a thousand of restaurants showed their interest in offering the discount, including Cha Chaan Teng, fast food chain outlets, Chinese and Western restaurants as well as fine dining restaurants.

Cheung explained that the discount is only applicable to dinner bills because customers at lunch time finish their meals quickly and then be gone.

He added that a list of all participating restaurants will be uploaded to the internet later, while the Hong Kong Tourism Board will help promote the discount.

Cheung pointed out that it is possible that the catering businesses will impose further incentives to encourage vaccination.
