Renovation worker arrested on 21 theft charges after tools stolen from parked vehicles
A 44-year-old renovation worker was arrested by the police for allegedly engaging in 21 cases of theft, which involved HK$199,000 worth of tools missing from minivans.
The Police of Kowloon East District Station announced on Thursday that a series of theft cases were busted, and a man suspected of stealing items from multiple minivans was arrested in an enforcement operation yesterday.
According to the police, 21 reports of theft were received between February and March, showing that criminals conducted the robberies in the early morning hours and targeted mainly vehicles parked in parking lots or roadsides containing renovation tools.
"The criminal used hard objects to break the glass of the target vehicles and stole the items inside," said the police.
Most of the victims in the cases were minivans, and most of the lost items were renovation tools, including rotary hammer drills, domestic chainsaws, polishers, and batteries, with a market value of about HK$199,300.
The arrested man was believed to be a renovation worker, and police believed the thief had sold most of the stolen goods for profit.
The arrestee is now detained pending his appearance in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts on Friday.
