People previously infected with Covid may produce sufficient levels of antibodies against coronavirus disease after receiving one dose of the vaccine, said Dr Ronald Lam Man-kin, Centre for Health Protection Controller.
Lam said members of the public who were earlier infected and have already recovered from the disease need only one
vaccine dose.
“Experts suggested that citizens who were discharged from hospitals after their recovery can receive a single dose of
BioNTech vaccine 90 days after their discharge date,” said Lam.
“While the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China suggested that patients can receive a single dose of Sinovac
vaccine six months after they recovered.”
The CHP controller said a second dose of either the
BioNTech and Sinovac
vaccine will not be necessary for the recovered
Covid patients.
According to Lam, since Hong Kong kick-started its citywide inoculation program, over 450,000 people have already received their first dose of
Covid vaccine.
He also reminded members of the public to stay vigilant and maintain social distance during the Easter holidays, avoid large events and gatherings.
