A 27-year-old man was arrested for smearing poop on the walls during his quarantine at Queen's Hill Estate.
The government has previously requisitioned blocks one and seven of Queen's Hill Estate - a newly completed public housing estate - to provide 2,580 units for quarantine use starting February 28.
The arrested suspect, Fung, was quarantined in a flat from March 12 to 15. When a cleaner entered his room on Wednesday, stains suspected to be feces were found to cover the walls, floor and ceiling.
The incident was then reported to the police and the suspect was arrested yesterday for criminal damage.
In photos shared by an internet user, the feces could be seen sticking on the ceiling and walls inside the unit. Even the light switches got themselves some new "paint."
Apart from the poop, the unit was in unsanitary condition with suspected urine on the floor and rubbish everywhere.
Netizens were in shock after witnessing such a "sh*tshow" and expressed their sympathies for cleaners at the facility.
"Karma will bite back those who did this on purpose!" one person wrote.
However, some said that people might have been pushed over the edge after being put in isolation for days.
"Some people with dementia or mental illness may also do this. Authorities should provide those people with the assistance they need to avoid this," one comment read.
A reader of The Standard commented that quarantine prisoners were carrying out a kind of "dirty protest," reminiscent of Irish prisoners who smeared their cells with feces to make a political statement.
This was not the first time someone under quarantine in an isolation facility has shown their dissatisfaction.
Last month, 16 people isolated at Penny's Bay quarantine center left their rooms in protest of lack of information.
Staffers had to call the police after failing to persuade them to go back.
Apart from that display of dissatisfaction, another
Facebook post showed a distressed man at Penny's Bay throwing things around and threatening to drink disinfectant water.
The man, suspected to be overwhelmed with pressure, was sat outside quarantine rooms holding suspected disinfectant and a cell phone. Pillows could be seen scattered all around him.
