A Hong Kong secondary school has opened a branch in Shenzhen, welcoming 1,000 Hong Kong and 200 mainland students today.
Shenzhen Hong Kong Pui Kiu College Longhua Xinyi School, a Shenzhen branch of Pui Kiu College, a secondary school located in Tai Wai, opened today to about 1,200 students.
Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor attended the opening ceremony.
With 80 Hong Kong teachers recruited, the Shenzhen school plans to teach an international curriculum in Chinese so that students can take the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education or other international public examinations. The school hopes it can foster exchange between youngsters in the Greater Bay Area.
Hong Kong and Shenzhen authorities reached an agreement on the establishment of the school in July 2020.
Construction started in March this year, with the first phase of the school buildings completed on May 25. The school opened today/
The school targets students from Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
The school occupied 45,037 square meters in a site of 180,000 square meters. Its planned capacity is 108 classes, with 36 classes each for primary school, secondary junior and secondary senior. It will provide about 3,000 school places.
