Privacy watchdog arrests man for posting ex-friend's info online after relationship turns sour
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) has charged a 31-year-old man for doxxing a former close friend after their relationship turned sour.
According to the privacy watchdog, the arrestee and the victim were close friends until February 2, 2022, when their friendship took a turn for the worse.
And from July 2022 to December 2022, the victim's personal information and negative comments attacking the victim were posted four times on two different social media sites.
The information revealed included their English and Chinese names, ID card numbers, mobile phone numbers, photos, medical records, etc., along with an ID card soft copy with certain parts of the information hidden.
The privacy watchdog warns the public that The Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance also applies to the online world and reminds the public to think twice before posting or reproducing doxxed information to prevent themselves from violating the law.
