Priscilla Wong to fill Arthur Li's shoes as chairman of HKU Council
Priscilla Wong Pui-sze has been appointed to fill Arthur Li Kwok-cheun's shoes as chairman of the Council of the University of Hong Kong with effect from 2022.
Wong's appointment was made by Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor on Friday. Her three-year term will commence on January 1, 2022.
The current council chairman Li will then step down from the position.
Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung Yun-hung welcomed the appointment and said Wong has extensive experience in public services.
“She has been a member of the HKU Council since 2017 and is currently the Chairperson of the Minimum Wage Commission and the Chairman of the Independent Police Complaints Council.”
“As a committed leader in society, Wong has excellent capability and ample experience in extensive areas. I am confident that the university will continue to scale new heights with Wong at the helm," he said.
Yeung expressed his appreciation to the outgoing council chairman Li as well, who has been in the post since January 2016.
“Under his sterling leadership, the university capitalized on its position as one of the world's top-tier universities by attracting and nurturing global scholars through excellence in research, teaching and learning, and knowledge exchange.”
“The university also actively engaged itself with the mainland and other parts of the world to deepen internationalization with brilliant results,” Yeung added.
