Police crack down on illegal electric scooters, arrest three
New Territories North police has conducted a two-day operation to crack down on driving of illegal electric vehicles, arresting three people and issuing 152 tickets.
Operation Goldensun started last Saturday, and two men and one woman aged between 27 and 44, were arrested in Sheung Shui and Tin Shui Wai for riding two electric scooters and one electric unicycle respectively.
They were arrested for several traffic offenses, including driving an unregistered vehicle and driving without a valid driving license, without third party insurance and without an approved protective helmet.
The police reminded the public that driving illegal electric scooters may cause fatal accidents.
Those who use unregistered electric mobility devices on carriageways, footpaths or cycle tracks commit an offense under the Road Traffic Ordinance and is liable to a fine of HK$5,000 or imprisonment. They may even lose their driving licenses.
