Police commissioner Raymond Siu granted two-year service extension
Police commissioner Raymond Siu Chak-yee, who will reach the retirement age this April, has been granted a two-year service extension until 2025, the government announced on Thursday.
“The purpose of granting Commissioner Siu an extension of service is to facilitate a smooth transition of the senior management of the Hong Kong Police Force,” a government spokesperson said.
According to records, Siu joined the force as an inspector in 1988. He was promoted as senior superintendent in 2007 and had assumed posts including deputy commander of Kwai Tsing district and commander of the Airport district.
He was in charge of the Kowloon City district after being promoted as a chief superintendent in 2013, and was switched to the Human Resources Branch of the force's Personnel Wing.
Siu became assistant police commissioner and oversaw the whole Personnel Wing starting from January 2017; and was promoted as a senior assistant commissioner and took the role of director of operations in November 2018.
At the peak of social unrest in November 2019, Siu was appointed the deputy police commissioner for operations and at last became the force's chief in June 2021.
