A Southeast Asian man was arrested on Tuesday following a high-speed car chase involving the police between Festival Walk in Kowloon Tong and Hung Mui Kuk Road in Tai Wai. The Mercedes-Benz police were chasing crashed into five other vehicles, resulting in one person being injured.
The incident occurred at around 2pm this afternoon when police officers spotted the
Mercedes-Benz carrying a number of suspicious persons near Festival Walk.
It is understood the driver of the
Mercedes-Benz refused to stop for the officers and fled the scene, initiating the chase.
The
Mercedes-Benz was eventually stopped by traffic on Hung Mui Kuk Road near Lung Hang Estate after they attempted to force their way through the stationary vehicles in front of them.
Sources said the passengers on board the
Mercedes-Benz then fled the scene on foot into Lung Hang Estate, while one of them was intercepted by pursuing officers.
It is learned that the arrestee is a member of a credit card fraud syndicate. He was arrested for furious driving, driving without a license, and driving without third party insurance.
An investigation is ongoing. Three men suspected to be connected with the case are still at large.
The Transport Department said that, due to the accident, part of the lanes of Hung Mui Kuk Road near Tin Sam Street is closed to all traffic and that traffic in the area is heavily congested.
