Pole position in 5km run, two horse races ‘mission accomplished’ for jockey Hamelin
Finishing a five-kilometer marathon and then riding on horseback to win two races appeared to be another ordinary Sunday for jockey Antoine Hamelin.
That said, Hamelin was found to have completed the 5 km race of the Wonder Woman Run Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Science Park last Sunday (Mar 26).
The Frenchman then headed straight to the Sha Tin Racecourse and won two races with his equine partners, “Ernest Feeling” and “Forever Folks.”
Hamelin said he was invited by the marathon’s organizer Trellis Digital Co. Ltd., and only found out at the venue that his horse riding fellows, like jockey Jack Wong Ho-nam and horse trainer Dennis Yip Chor-hong took part in the 5 km event as well.
Hamelin said he loves running in the hills and sometimes hops onto the treadmill at home to lose weight before races.
He didn’t do any specific training beforehand and was glad he won the run.
Hamelin added he prefers running on the ground with loose soil and hoped to participate in a cross-country race in the future.
