(Pictures) MTR Kwun Tong Line to see new trains on Sunday
MTR announced the introduction of new trains in service, with extended boarding areas, better-designed seats, and other types of equipment, which will first be in use on the Kwun Tong Line from November 27.
Manufactured by CRRC QingDao Sifang Corporation, the newly acquired Q-Trains will introduce about 93 new trains - one-third of the total number of trains in operations - into Hong Kong’s MTR networks.
New trains are designed with broad areas next to the carriages' doors, allowing passengers to enjoy larger spaces.
The number of hand straps in carriages will be increased from around 27 to 64, with grab poles redesigned as ring shapes. The design of seats in carriages will be based on ergonomics.
Besides, all carriages will be illuminated with LED lighting and will have simpler and clearer dynamic metro route maps equipped.
Each Q-Train will have eight carriages, initially being put into service this Sunday on the Kwun Tong Line, followed by the Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, and Tseung Kwan O Line.
