Passersby unite to rescue taxi driver

Good Samaritans joined hands in rescuing a taxi driver trapped in his vehicle after it flipped on its side in Tsuen Wan yesterday.
The driver, who was conscious, escaped with minor injuries and was eventually sent to a hospital after he was extracted from the badly damaged taxi.

The taxi flipped on its side after crashing into railings on the side of the road at Shek Wai Kok Road off Shek Kuk House, Shek Wai Kok Estate, at around 12.20am yesterday.

At least eight passersby rushed to the taxi, holding it still so others could free the driver. Photos posted online showed the good Samaritans standing on their toes trying to open the vehicle's front right door to let the driver out.

Firemen soon arrived at the scene and managed to get the driver out.

The driver, a 50-year-old male surnamed Lee, complained of pain in his neck, hips and back, with bruises on his hand. He was later admitted to Yan Chai Hospital in stable condition.

Passersby similarly helped rescue wounded pedestrians in a fatal traffic accident in Tai Po on August 22.
