The two most eye-catching marathon races in Hong Kong - Oxfam Trailwalker and Hong Kong Marathon - are both set to be held in late November, only one week apart.
Oxfam announced on Wednesday that Trailwalker this year was set to be held from November 25 to 27, while this year's Hong Kong Marathon was tentatively scheduled on November 20.
A spokesperson said the Trailwalker breached the annual practice since 2009 of holding the race on the third weekend of November and scheduled it for November 25 to 27, given that the Hong Kong Marathon will be held on that weekend.
Some runners who have been participating in both for years said if there were only five days between the two races, they were not sure they had enough energy to run in both.
Lobo Louie Hung-tak, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Health and Physical Education of the Education University, said five days was plenty of time for a runner with six months of scientific training and preparation to recover physically.
But he reminded runners who plan to participate in both races to take extra care in preparation and competition to prevent injuries.
Oxfam said the Hong Kong Marathon and Trailwalker were expected to have fewer runners this year due to the
Covid-19 pandemic.
It was expected that not many people would register for both, and as the nature of the two races was not quite the same, there would not be many to run for both.
