Overnight queues form as Hong Hong food expo kicks off
The HKTDC Food Expo organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) kicked off today, with attendees queuing overnight to be the first to enter the exhibition venue.
During the fair’s five-day period, exhibitors will offer food at special prices to attract customers to spend.
More than 100 citizens were reportedly already lined up at the entrance for the opening of the Food Expo at 9:30 am this morning.
Some visitors said they had been queueing up since Monday, hoping to be in time to join a competition held by the exhibitors, allowing attendees the opportunity to purchase 50 to 150 cans of abalone for just HK$1 each.
As the consumption voucher of HK$2000 was issued to citizens last Sunday, some said they would use it to purchase stuff at the Food Expo.
Since the government announced earlier the “3 + 4” quarantine scheme, visitors holding amber codes are banned from entering the Food Expo until they complete the four-day medical surveillance, and the color of their health code turns blue.
Due to the social distancing rules, no food tasting arrangements will be provided at the venue this year.
