Over 5,000 cops deployed on election day tomorrow

The police force will deploy over 5,000 officers to stand guard and patrol at poll stations to ensure tomorrow's elections will run smoothly, said police commissioner Raymond Siu Chak-yee.
Tomorrow eligible voters will elect 1,500 members of the Election Committee, which will be responsible for electing 40 of the 90 seats in the Legislative Council election and Chief Executive election.

Speaking to media this morning, Siu said the election is an important mission, and the police is well-prepared to ensure the election will be held safely and fairly.

He continued that police force will mobilize around 5,000 to 6,000 officers tomorrow to stand guard and patrol poll stations and high risk areas. Officers dressed in plain clothes will also keep an eye on suspected individuals.

Officers will take resolute law enforcement actions if they find anyone trying to disrupt the election. They will also check if any netizens incite others to do so on the internet, he added.

Siu also called on the public to report to police if they have information on those who have plans to intervene the election.
