Over 100 restaurants and venues charged during Christmas and New Year break
Authorities have prosecuted over 100 owners of restaurants and premises that breached anti-epidemic rules during the Christmas and New Year break, while issuing some 700 fine notices to customers.
Law enforcement officers inspected about 10,000 venues, including 8,500 restaurants, between December 24 and January 1, Chief Secretary for Administration Matthew Cheung Kin-chung said in his blog today.
The government has initiated prosecution procedures against 108 venues for allegedly violating the Prevention and Control of Disease Ordinance.
Also, 729 fine notices of HK$5,000 were issued to citizens who breached group gathering and mask rules at these places.
Another operation targeting domestic helpers was performed in the same period of time, during which 75 such workers were fined.
