Over 10,000 cops to be mobilized on LegCo election day
Commissioner of Police Raymond Siu Chak-yee said over 10,000 police officers, including those in plain clothes and from tactical units, will be mobilized on Legislative Council election day.
Siu said it is to ensure that the election on December 19 will be staged smoothly and safely without any disruption.
He also warned citizens not to intervene or intimidate other voters at the polling stations; otherwise, police will carry out resolute law enforcement actions.
The police chief also condemned that someone had sent suspicious letters containing rotten meat to judges and election candidates, describing the incident as puerile and sneaky.
He continued that the cases are now handled by the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau and refused to further comment on the issue.
If the offenders had any accomplices in Hong Kong, officers would definitely bring them to justice, Siu pointed out.
