OUP (China) stages Education Leadership Forum Survey shows future-readiness of HK teachers

It’s been almost 18 months since the pandemic first emerged and almost all of us experienced significant changes in the way we live, learn and work. The local education sector is no exception.
Teachers and students have gone through a journey filled with challenges and today, it seems they have quite embraced the “new normal” especially with help of digital technology. As part of its 60th Anniversary celebrations and commitment to the education sector, OUP (China), the publisher, has commissioned a survey entitled “Are Teachers and Students Ready for Future of Education?” and announced its findings, which reveals that the pandemic has accelerated the application of digital and IT tools and blended learning. So, are they really ready for the future of education?

The application of digital and IT tools and blended learning are trending that more than 70% claimed that they feel themselves ready for the challenges brought by the future of education, but they expected to take 2.8 years on average for overall teachers in Hong Kong to become future-ready. To overcome the challenges, workload, training resources support and curriculum flexibility (67%) top concerns of the teachers surveyed.

Teachers have become more confident in teaching in the “new normal” and seem to be more satisfactory with the current level of support in teaching. The survey also reveals teachers’ reliance on online education resources provided by the publishing industry during the pandemic, showing the industry’s quick and timely support has earned them recognition.

So, are Hong Kong students ready as well? More than 70% teachers believe that students are ready for future education. However, most of them consider it necessary for students to equip themselves with soft skills like communication, analytical ability and agility, etc.

Mei-mei Ng, Managing Director of OUP (China), shared, “as a close partner of the education sector, we fully understand the pressing needs faced by the community. It is fulfilling to witness how positively the entire education community has reacted to unprecedented changes with innovation, resilience and agility. Not to mention how much they appreciate the support offered by the publishing sector,” she added, “looking forward, we hope to work hand-in-hand to transform our expertise in teaching resources to enable more effective teaching and learning.”

As part of the commitment and celebrations of its 60th Anniversary, OUP (China) will be staging the Education Leadership Forum on 5 and 6 November, 2021. Over 20 renowned education leaders will be invited to share insights on the latest education topics about future education, pedagogies and best practices, hoping to inspire the education community to become more future-ready.
