Most Hongkongers have put on weight while stuck at home during the Covid-19 pandemic, with nearly 30 percent of them putting on at least 2.7 kg (6 lb.), a survey has found.
The survey by the Asian Academy for Sports and Fitness Professionals asked 700 of the city’s sports lovers about their exercise routine and their weight gain.
Around 53 percent of respondents said they are now heavier, of which 28.1 percent of them said they have put on at least 2.7 kg.
On their exercise routine, 36.8 percent of the respondents said they continue their work out at home, while only 20 percent of them said they opt for outdoor exercises, including running and hiking.
However, the study also found that 26.8 of the respondents had no alternative workout plans after the city was hit by
Covid, resulting in a drastic drop in their amount of exercise.
Separately, 55.1 percent of the respondents said they preferred to work out at 24-7 gym centers after the reopening of the sports facilities, with some 60 percent of them citing the freedom to exercise at time slots with fewer gym users.
Around 40 percent of those who said they like working out at 24-7 gym centers also said the centers offer them more flexibility in exercising over their irregular working hours.
