One hospitalized as San Po Kong fire burns for more than four hours
A man was sent to hospital after a blaze broke out from an industrial building in San Po Kong early Saturday morning. The fire was upgraded to no.3 alarm at 8.53am and firefighters are still fighting the blaze.
The fire first started as smoke billowed from the staircases on the 9/F of Wing Hin Factory Building on Ng Fong Street at 5.17am.
Firemen are now using four jets and mobilizing three breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze as of 11.45am, the Fire Services Department said.
Live sources said five people have retreated to the rooftop and are waiting for rescuers to reach them. A man and a woman felt unwell after inhaling the smoke and the man was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
It is understood that the building is undergoing renovation work with its exterior walls surrounded by scaffolding. The cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed.
The department reminded citizens affected by the smoke and the unusual odor carried by the wind to close their doors and windows and stay calm.
