Observatory urges public to brace for cold after recording 14 degrees
The Hong Kong Observatory states the northeast monsoon is bringing rather cool weather to Guangdong's coastal areas, urging citizens to layer up and respond to the rapid temperature drop in the next couple of days.
Under replenishment of the northeast monsoon and a rainband, the urban areas reached 14 degrees Celsius and New Territories dropped a further one to two degrees. With the average daytime temperature reaching about 17 degrees.
The lowest temperature today was 5.1 degrees recorded at Tai Mo Shan this morning, with Ngong Ping and Tate's Cairn recording 7.6 and 7.7 degrees respectively.
Areas such as Sheung Shui, Shek Kong, Tai Po and Sha Tin have stayed below 13 degrees.
The weather watchdog said an intense winter monsoon is expected to reach the coast of southern China overnight on Friday. It will become further colder and windy over the region between the weekend and early next week.
Temperatures in the urban areas will fall below 10 degrees on Sunday and Monday, and a few degrees lower in the New Territories.
