No.3 Strong Wind Signal issued, to stay before midnight
The Observatory issued the No.3 Strong Wind Signal to replace the No. 8 Gale or Storm Signal at 4.20pm Saturday as more and more citizens are heading outdoors amid less heavier rains.
The signal means that winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 km/h are expected, and it will remain in force before midnight tonight.
At 4pm, Typhoon Chaba was estimated to be about 330 kilometers west-southwest of Hong Kong and is forecast to move northwest at about 16 km/h towards inland of western Guangdong.
Chaba is expected to move inland and weaken gradually. As Chaba departs gradually from Hong Kong, local winds are moderating. However, strong winds are still prevailing over the territory, occasionally reaching gale force offshore and on high ground.
The observatory reminded citizens to beware of falling objects in winds and not to touch electric cables that have been blown loose.
In Causeway Bay, more and more citizens are going onto the streets to see if any shops open, in hope of making up for their "lost" holiday.
Some expressed disappointment as they had to cancel their outdoor activities over the stormy weather this weekend, while others worried that shops would stay closed even after the typhoon signal is further downgraded.
At Hung Hom Pier, people seemed to be having fun though. A family was spotted "chasing the wind," while another – all three in raincoats – was enjoying a little walk.
Some runners were seen jogging at the pier as well, not disturbed by the rains and winds.
