The new interchange platform at Hung Hom Station is in use starting from today, a week before the full Tuen Ma Line begins service. Many rail fans have been waiting outside the station since 5 am to get a first glimpse of the new platform.
With the introduction of the new platform, commuters interchanging trains between the West Rail Line and East Rail line will have to take an escalator to the station’s concourse to switch between the two, as opposed to the previous arrangement where passengers can switch between the two lines by walking across the same platform.
MTR has put up notices, made public announcements and deployed more staff to help guide the passengers of the new arrangement.
But some passengers thought the instructions were unclear. They also said they had to use around three minutes to switch between the two lines now, which was less convenient than the past.
