CUHK Soars to New Heights with HK$33 Million Grant for Smart Traffic and Satellite Research
CUHK Reaches New Heights in Satellite Research with HK$33 Million Grant.
Chinese University Hong Kong (CUHK) has received HK$33 million in funding for two research projects focused on smart traffic and satellite remote sensing.
The Smart Traffic Fund has provided support for a vehicle detection project that utilizes remote sensing technologies for wide-area monitoring of urban road traffic.
This is the first time that CUHK has received assistance from the fund.
In addition, the Innovation and Technology Fund has provided funds for an integrated remote sensing technology project focused on landslide monitoring.
This project marks a significant breakthrough in the development of satellite remote sensing research and represents a major milestone in the field of space technology for higher education institutions in Hong Kong.
Led by Professor Kwan Mei-po, the research team will develop and launch the first CUHK satellite, which will serve a range of research fields, including natural disaster monitoring, carbon neutrality, and sustainable development.
The satellite will provide crucial data for these areas and contribute to the advancement of space technology in Hong Kong.
Professor Kwan Mei-po stated that these two research projects represent significant breakthroughs building upon the foundation of previous satellite remote sensing research and mark a major milestone in the development of space technology by higher education institutions in Hong Kong.
