New and improved Aberdeen Market soft reopening next Wednesday
A refurbished and modernized Aberdeen Market is ready to begin operation in phases starting this coming Wednesday, according to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
About 80 stalls, which will be opened on April 26, are distributed over three floors and will mainly sell vegetables, fruits, poultry, fresh meat, frozen meat, and other dry and wet goods.
The official ceremony for the reopening of the Aberdeen market is set to be held on May 19, when more stalls will be opened.
A department spokesperson says the overhauled Aberdeen market will hold a total of 142 stalls, with 137 of them already allocated to existing tenants and other eligible persons through auction in February.
The Aberdeen Market is the pioneering project under the Market Modernization Programme, with the overhaul works starting in November 2021. The department noted that the project had been greatly affected by the pandemic, with the works largely completed in March this year, and most of the stall tenants are ready to start business next week.
