Music to the ears as sellout nears for fest

Music to the ears as sellout nears for fest

All three-day weekend, Friday and Saturday tickets for Clockenflap - the biggest international music festival in Hong Kong - have sold out, with only Sunday tickets still available, the organizer said.
As of 7 pm yesterday, a few HK$1,080 Sunday single-day tickets were still available but the organizer said they were "being sold fast."

The event is set to return to the Central Harbourfront Event Space between March 3 and 5, following a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic and the 2019 social unrest.

The organizer said the three-day tickets, priced at HK$1,620 and HK$1,180 for full-time local students, have sold out.

All Friday and Saturday single-day tickets, priced at HK$1,180 and HK$780 for full-time students, have also sold out.

General admission ticket holders can bring up to two children under the age of 12 to the festival for free but quota is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

A full lineup of the music festival was revealed Saturday, with more than 100 groups or artists set to perform.

Among the latest names announced include US hip-hop legends Wu-Tang Clan, Swedish indie-pop superstars The Cardigans, British rockers Bombay Bicycle Club, acclaimed US singer-songwriter Sasha Alex Sloan, critically adored British alt-rock genre-hoppers Black Country, New Road, Japanese dance-pop dynamos CHAI and local Canto-rock heroes KOLOR.

Dubbed "Asia's answer to Coachella" - a world-famous music festival held annually in California - Clockenflap said the event will feature "the same full, world-class festival experience that has wowed fans in previous years."

It will include "a spectacular outdoor environment featuring multiple stages, an eclectic array of top food and beverage outlets and a wide-ranging lineup of must-see international, regional and local acts."

It will be Clockenflap's 12th edition and joins a return to live music and arts in Hong Kong.

Just like in previous years, this year's event will be free-standing, with festival goers able to move without restriction among the various stages and attractions.

Launched in Cyberport in 2008, Clockenflap found its home at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade in 2011 before shifting to the Central Harbourfront in 2016.

The longest-running music festival in the city saw more than 70,000 music and art lovers gather in its 11th edition in 2018, which showcased over 100 international and local artists.
