MTR to step up services for Labour Day long weekend
Train service of eight MTR railway lines will be enhanced from the coming Saturday to next Monday (April 29 to May 1) to cater to the public’s traveling needs during the Labour Day long weekend, the MTR Corporation announced on Wednesday.
A total of 460 train trips will be added during the period, providing more frequent service than regular weekends and holidays, said the railway operator.
Train frequencies on Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line, South Island Line, East Rail Line, Tuen Ma Line and Tung Chung Line will be increased during various periods in the long weekend.
In view of the passenger demand during holiday, the MTR said the train trips are mainly added in the late afternoon and evening period.
“For instance, trains on Tuen Ma Line will run at an enhanced interval from 6 minutes to 5.5 minutes from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, train service of the Disneyland Resort Line will be enhanced from every 10 minutes to every 5 minutes in the morning and evening on these three days,” it added.
Additional staff will be deployed to train stations to assist passengers during the holidays, while the corporation said it will also closely monitor train operations during the holidays and the following days to suitably adjust train service and manpower based on actual needs.
Meanwhile, the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section) will provide 11 additional pairs of train trips (22 trips) between Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and Futian Station on a daily basis from April 27 to May 4 for the convenience of leisure and business travelers.
“To facilitate smooth ticket purchase and traveling, additional manpower at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station will be deployed with station signage and announcements enhanced, and information will be disseminated through various channels to assist passengers,” the MTR wrote in a statement.
