Motorcyclist arrested for speeding up to 170 km/h in Kwun Tong
A 31-year-old man was arrested for speeding his motorcycle up to 170 km/h and overtaking vehicles on the Kwun Tong By-pass late Friday night.
The motorcyclist surnamed Kwok was released on bail and must report to the police in early May.
The arrest came as officers from the Kowloon East traffic unit mounted an operation to combat dangerous driving and speeding activities around 10 pm last night.
Officers initiated a chase after finding the motorcycle Kwok was riding sped up to 170 km/h, overtook vehicles on multiple occasions, and switched between different driving lanes.
The motorcycle was finally intercepted by police on Shing Kai Road near Muk Hung Street, and Kwok was arrested for dangerous driving and exceeding the speed limit when driving.
Police also suspected Kwok breached the Road Traffic (Construction and Maintenance of Vehicles) Regulations for illegally modifying his motorcycle. The vehicle was sent to a Kowloon Bay maintenance shop pending further examination.
