Over 600 suspected cases of violating Covid-19 isolation or quarantine-related requirements are under investigation or follow-up as of August 20, said the Department of Health.
Among those cases in the investigation, over 140 related to not wearing electronic wristbands.
The government has required
Covid patients to put on the e-wristbands during the home isolation period since July 15. Under the regulation, those who leave their household area without putting on the wristbands, cutting them off, or uninstalling the "StayHomeSafe" mobile app are considered as violating the isolation orders.
Offenders are subject to a maximum fine of $10,000 and imprisonment for six months.
Besides, any person who fails to comply with compulsory testing notices commits an offense, and the maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of HK$25,000 and imprisonment for six months.
"Around 260 people have been convicted for breaching regulations related to isolation or quarantine and have received sentences, as of August 20," the spokesperson added.
"Over 7,000 fixed penalty notices have been processed by the department," said the spokesperson.
The department emphasised that citizens must strictly observe relevant disease prevention requirements to fight the epidemic and minimise the risk of transmission in the community.
