Marijuana cookies seized in operation ahead of Halloween
A 19-year-old female driver was arrested after suspected marijuana cookies were found in her vehicle in an operation ahead of Halloween.
At around 7pm on Saturday, officers stopped and searched a suspicious vehicle outside Kam Tai shopping centre in Ma On Shan as part of an anti-drug operation code named Sproutwatch.
Officers seized 89.1 grams of suspected marijuana in her car, and 672.9 grams of suspected marijuana cookies and oil, with a total market value of HK$144,000. The driver was arrested for drug trafficking.
Shatin anti-triad police also searched party rooms in the district and arrested six operators for breaching social distancing measures. Another eight men and 14 women were fined HK$5,000 for breaching social distancing restrictions.
Meanwhile, East Kowloon police searched over 50 gaming centers, illegal gambling stalls and unlicensed bars controlled by triad societies over the weekend, and arrested 265 people in operation HeavyShaft.
The 198 men and 61 women, aged from 16 to 79, were arrested on suspicion of operating gambling establishments, drug trafficking, operating “drug dens,” claiming to be triad members and money laundering.
Officers found that the gangsters had listed the prices of various drugs in the venues and allowed people to pay by scanning a QR code.
“If a customer pays a higher amount of entrance fee, they will receive an 'one-stop service' including unlimited drinks and drugs and escort service,” senior inspector Yau Chong-tai said.
More than HK$700,000 cash was confiscated, while four local bank accounts and a payment platform with a total of HK$1.4 million were frozen.
