Man who stabs younger brother 36 times found guilty of manslaughter instead of murder
A 66-year-old man, charged with murder for stabbing his younger brother after a conflict over electric bill payment, was found guilty of a lesser manslaughter charge by the jury on Monday.
Bu Shuiqiang, the defendant, was initially accused of murdering his 60-year-old brother on September 25, 2019 at their home in Mong Kok.
According to the persecution, the defendant and the victim had a rough relationship and often argued over the shared responsibility for the electric bill. The two brothers went from a verbal argument to a knife fight over the issue on the day of the incident.
His brother was later pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. The forensics revealed the deceased had 36 stab wounds on his body.
The defendant claimed he accidentally killed his brother after being taunted and in self-defence.
The case has been adjourned to this Thursday for sentencing, during which the defendant must continue to be remanded in custody.
