Man who shows fake police warrant card for home theft arrested
A 40-year-old man was arrested after entering a citizen's home by showing a fake police warrant card and stole HK$6,000 cash on Saturday morning last week (Dec 11).
The incident was reported by a 56-year-old woman, who said a man approached her at her home on Queen's Road East in Wan Chai. The man claimed he was a cop and showed her a fake warrant card, asking if he could enter and search the unit.
As the "cop" left, the woman found that some HK$6,000 cash was missing.
After an investigation by the Wan Chai district crime squad, officers targeted a 40-year-old man surnamed Lee and arrested him at a flat on King's Road in North Point for impersonating a police officer and theft on Tuesday.
Officers in his home also found the clothes he was wearing when committing the crime and the fake police warrant card. It was understood that Lee was involved in other similar cases as well.
Lee was also charged with impersonating a police officer and theft, and he appeared in Eastern Magistrates' Courts on Thursday morning.
Police called on citizens to contact the Wan Chai district crime squad by dialing 3660 7543 or 3660 7544 if they wished to report a similar case and provide relevant information.
