Man slashed to death in gambling den debt recovery quest
A 46-year-old man was slashed to death while they beat his 59-year-old girlfriend to unconsciousness after trying to recover more than HK$100,000 of debt from a woman but was ambushed by up to seven armed attackers.
The incident occurred at an illegal gambling den in a flat on Portland Street in Mong Kok in the early hours of Friday.
As soon as the couple, both surnamed Cheung, entered the flat, the man was knifed by six to seven men while the girlfriend was punched and kicked and lost consciousness for about an hour.
The girlfriend woke up only to find her boyfriend covered in blood and unresponsive, and the attackers were long gone already. Police and paramedics arrived after she filed a report, and the couple was rushed to Kwong Wah Hospital.
Yet, the man was declared dead at the hospital. It was understood that the knifed man was found after about an hour, and he might have died of lack of medical attendance.
The scene was then cordoned off by police, and two knives were seized there. The case has been listed as murder and is now handled by the West Kowloon regional crime squad.
Officers in the morning patrolled shops nearby to see if any surveillance cameras captured the face of the attackers. They also contacted drivers who had their vehicles parked in the area and checked their dashcams.
