Man hospitalized after heart stops during tooth extraction
A 40-year-old man was sent to the intensive care unit of Queen Mary Hospital on Wednesday morning after his heart stopped beating and he fell unconscious during a tooth extraction.
The incident was reported to police at around 10.22am today by a doctor from a dental clinic on 19/F of The Center on Queen's Road Central.
It was understood that the patient surnamed Lau, didn't have any history of chronic disease and was anesthetized before the procedure.
Medics there immediately resuscitated Lau after they found his breathing and heartbeat had stopped. Still, Lau didn't regain consciousness, and medics filed a police report.
Lau was then rushed to Queen Mary Hospital and remained in the intensive care unit.
According to the dental clinic's webpage, it was founded in May 2003, and it offers services, including dental implant procedures and surgeries on the oral cavity, jaw, and face.
